BIO BIOGRAPHY
James Bignon and the ever evolving Deliverance Mass Choir and their director Dr. Samuel L. Sanders are best known for their Grammy/Stellar Nominated and Billboard Gospel hit recordings “God Is Great”, “On The Other Side of Through”, “What A Mighty God We Serve”, “He Made The Difference" and many others.
James Bignon’s career has exploded into a full blown Global Music Ministry serving churches, colleges and the Christian community around the world. Bignon led the 10-member ensemble of the original cast of “Riverdance” as they toured Ireland, United Kingdom, and Japan.
With the release of his new project “MasterPeace” James Bignon remains true to his core traditional Gospel audience. His musical precision, honed during his leadership as the Director of Music of the renowned Georgia Mass Choir, is evident throughout the compositions on “MasterPeace”. Listeners will experience the musical influences from his early beginnings studying the works and leadership of the incomparable Reverend James Cleveland. In an effort to continue preserving Gospel music's heritage and Rev. Cleveland's legacy, Bignon re-recorded two of his greatest hits, "Peace Be Still" and "Please Be Patient with Me". Mr. Bignon's acquired knowledge through the years has earned him national notoriety as an awe inspiring Gospel Music Workshop Clinician.
Besides his headlining albums, Bignon has worked with the Gospel Music Workshop of America Mass Choir writing and recording, “He’ll Make Everything Alright” (1991); re-recording Rev. Cleveland’s, “Lord Help Me To Hold Out” (1992), also writing and recording “God Knows How Much You Can Bear” for a 1993 GMWA project.
His soul-stirring composition “All The Way” highlighted the 1994 Gospel Music Workshop of America album, and his own “Heaven Belongs To You” achieved a Stellar Award nomination for Male Vocalist of the Year reaching the top 20.
At an early age Bignon sang his first solo at historical St. John Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia where his mother was pianist. While attending Lucy Laney High School in Augusta, Georgia Bignon formed the school’s first gospel group.
In 1991, James Bignon formed the Deliverance Mass Choir, an ever-evolving ensemble based in Atlanta. His debut album, “How Excellent Is Thy Name” quickly landed on the gospel charts, followed by 1992’s “Use Me.”
In 1996, “What A Mighty God We Serve” with a recording choir of 400 voices proved to be another incredibly successful project for Bignon Atlanta International Records. His fifth release on Atlanta International Records (AIR Gospel) and his first studio project, “On The Other Side Of Through” was an immediate hit and is still being played on radio stations around the country.
The new millennium (2000) brought yet another great album and video entitled “Miracle”. In 2002 James Bignon released “God Is Great” which was record live in Sioux City, Iowa and remained on Billboard Gospel Charts for 26 consecutive weeks.
